A List of PDO/PGI Products

For those readers who are not European residents, we must initially begin by explaining the meaning of the labels PDO and PGI, which are listed on select foods and beverages.

These are special labels that are used in the European Union to inform consumers that the product in question is unique, owing its distinguishing qualities to the geo-cultural environment (including natural, ecological, and human factors) in which it is produced. And so, every product that meets the strict criteria instituted by EU legislation and bears a PDO or PGI label can only be grown, produced, or processed exclusively in the region listed on the label.

OLIVE OILS. Olive oils originating from the following areas have been given PDO status: Viannos Irakliou Kritis (Heraklion, Crete),  Lygourio Asklipiou (Peloponnese), Vorios Mylopotamos Rethymnis Kritis (Rethymnon, Crete), Krokees Lakonias (Laconia), Petrina Lakonias (Laconia), Kranidi Argolidas (Argolida), Peza Irakliou Kritis (Heraklion, Crete), Arxanes Irakliou Kritis (Heraklion, Crete), Lakonia (Laconia), Chania Kritis (Chania, Crete), Kefalonia (Cephalonia), Olympia, Lesvos or Mytilini, Preveza, Rodos (Rhodes), Thasos, Kalamata, Kolymvari Chanion Kritis (Chania, Crete), Sitia Lasithiou Kritis (Lasithi, Crete), Apokoronas Chanion Kritis (Chania, Crete), Samos, Zakynthos, Exeretiko partheno eleolado Thrapsano (Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Heraklion, Crete), Finiki Lakonias (Laconia), Agios Mattheos Kerkyras (Corfu),  Exeretiko partheno eleolado "Trizinia” (Extra Virgin Olive Oil from the region of Attica),  Exeretiko Partheno Eleolado Selino Kritis (Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Chania, Crete), Agoureleo Chalkidikis (Chalkidiki), Messara (Heraklion, Crete).
