Home-made lemonade

  • sugar: 2-3 cups, or to taste
  • water: 4 cups + 2 litres
  • fresh lemon juice: 4 cups
  • lemons: 2, cut into slices
  • basil leaves (or mint): 5-6
  • ice for serving


  1. In a large saucepan, heat the sugar with the 4 cups of the water until dissolved into a light syrup. Leave the syrup to cool and pour into a pitcher.

  2. Add 2 liters cold water, the lemon juice and slices and the basil leaves and stir thoroughly. Refrigerate until well chilled.
    Serve over ice.
